Author Spotlight July 2022 Book Review - I read " Son of the Sphinx " and liked this Historical Fiction overall. I really enjoyed Rosa’s voice and the whole concept of time traveling with King Tut. The book was pretty historically accurate and well written. The few black and white illustrations fit well with the book. I really liked how the author posted several index like a map and a list of the various Pharaohs. Even though the concept of the story was good I did want to see King Tut more developed he seemed like a background character here. I also would have loved for there to be more interaction with the past, it kind off did not work out when both characters looked from the outside and could not have been seen. In general, this is a pretty good book that could have been made better. It does give the readers a nice look into the history of Ancient Egypt and is a good read for middle graders. Overall, I give this book 4 stars.           Bio. I...

As the trees and plants are coming back to life many new authors are starting to get books out. In this update I would like to introduce everyone to two new writers. Something was missing. Sure, he loved doing the drawings, but there had to be more. Daniel found himself with a head full of characters and no way to get them out. So, that's whe...

Welcome all to my first Author Spotlight feature where you will get a chance to meet a well known author and learn about the writing process.   Interview     1) What were your favorite children books, when you were growing up?   I read practically every Nancy Drew there was, plus Harriet the Spy, The Little White Horse, and I gobbled up all of Phyllis Whitney’s mysteries , A Wrinkle in Time, etc . I could go on, but I won’t. Basically, I read a book a day all during elementary school.Maybe that’s why I love writing for the middle-grade audience.   2) What was the inspiration behind writing your book?   Several things! The magical, mysterious world of butterflies . . . spooky Louisiana swamps, old plantation houses, islands in the South Pacific . . . and a girl who is connected to all those things through her Grammy Claire. I love mysteries; too, as you can tell from my childhood favorite books, and I wanted to try my h...
